PAROS, GREECE
AUGUST 31 - SEPTEMBER 7, 2024
Entry Requirements
You will need a valid US passport with two blank pages to travel to Greece (one blank page for each enter/exit stamp). Greek law requires three months of passport validity beyond the intended date of your departure.
If you are transiting another country, your passport should have at least six months of remaining validity to avoid any travel disruptions.
Travel
You can reach the island by ferry or plane.
There are no direct flights to Paros, so we recommend that everyone fly into Athens and then take a ferry or short flight to Paros.
The Meltemi (northerly dry wind that prevails in the Aegean Sea in summer months) reaches its peak mid-July to mid-August, but can still be strong in early September. If going the ferry route, we suggest you take one of the large ferries to reduce the chances of a ferry delay and/or sea sickness.
If you get your plane ticket far enough in advance, it will most likely be more convenient and cost effective to fly to Paros. If you are planning on doing some sightseeing in Athens beforehand, or are simply looking forward to a boat ride through the Greek islands, make sure the ferry meets your standards -- i.e., an open deck with room to explore.
**If the ferry takes cars it is most likely a big ferry. BlueStar ferries are the biggest and allow you to walk around on the outside decks to take in the sea view and air. Catamarans require all passengers to stay inside.
**There are two ports in Athens: Piraeus and Rafina. Rafina is closer to the airport. Piraeus is closer to the Athens city center.
Rental Car
We will have three rental cars. You needn’t do a thing for transportation on the island, unless you want to rent a four wheeler or ATV.
If you would like to drive while on the island, you will need an International Driving Permit. If you decide to get an IDP, we will reimburse the $20 fee.
Chef
We will have a chef for the week. Chef Nikolaos and his assistant will provide breakfast and dinner every day. This includes dinner on the first night and breakfast on our final morning.

Weather
Paros is supposed to be stunning in September. The air transitions from very hot to pleasantly warm, and the water is still comfortable from heating up over the summer months.
We anticipate it to be in the 70s. Due to the island’s location in the Aegean Sea, a strong breeze and humidity can be expected.
Paros
In ancient Greece Paros was famed for its marble quarries. Known as Parian marble, it was one of the world’s finest varieties and brought wealth to the island through trading.
Marble from Paros island was used by the ancient Greeks in the construction of some of the famous temples of the ancient world like the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus, and the Temple of Apollo.
Archaeologists estimate that 80 percent of Greek antiquities—including the Winged Victory of Samothrace and Venus de Milo—were sculpted from marble slabs sourced on Paros.
The island was the apple of discord for many conquerors (Romans, Byzantines, Franks, Venetians and Ottomans), who left their imprint on Paros. It has known periods of great prosperity, as shown by the ruins in its archaeological sites and its historical monuments, which you can visit across the island.
